Special Use Permits - SUP -  have gained prominence as a necessary measure for establishing designated landing spots for aircraft in rural areas across the United States. While many of these permits are designed to promote safe and responsible land ownership practices, it is crucial to understand that a significant number of them are revocable, which may impact the long-term viability of such landing spots. This group is committed to sharing best practices and real-world examples that demonstrate how airparks effectively manage their special use permits to maintain compliance while maximizing operational potential. By learning from both successful and challenging cases, stakeholders can better navigate the complexities associated with these permits and ensure sustainable aviation activities in their communities. Ultimately, this collective knowledge aims to enhance the overall experience and safety of airpark operations, benefiting both aircraft owners and local residents alike.

Case Samples - Wanted!

Some long established small airports have declined the offer to apply for a revocable SUP and instead provided substantial evidence demonstrating that the runway is and has been in actively in use and serves a critical purpose as an emergency landing strip for aircraft transitioning the area, is on the FAA database as registered runways, forest service aircraft have used the runway for fire support and most recently we used the airstrip for a base of operations for a search and rescue operations if needed. We feel a case library would be useful to the community to the general aviation community.
